Controlling nervousness may appear mission impossible but it really is not that difficult as it may seem at a first glance. You may not be able to eliminate it completely but you can learn how to prevent nervousness from interfering your daily activities. If you feel nervous before public speaking, for instance, you can overcome nervousness by practicing your speech in front of the mirror. That way you will increase your self-confidence and will not feel intimidated when starting your presentation.

Focus on positive feelings and do not think about failing because if you let the fear from failure to overwhelm you, you will really fail. Convince yourself that you can do it and you will. It is as easy as that but you really must believe that you are well prepared and that your voice will not tremble when starting to speak.

Breath deeply and relax. Breathing exercises are very helpful in controlling nervousness as well as various relaxation techniques. Whatever helps you relax will also help you get over nervousness. And always keep in mind that the world will not end if everything does not work out the way you have planned. Get enough rest and sleep, and avoid factors that can trigger nervousness including alcohol, caffeine and nicotine as well as other nervous people. It may be comforting that you are not the only one feeling nervous but being around people who have problems with nervousness as well will not help you overcome that fear from failure and insecurity.
